The short version

We are an advertising and referral service. When you click through to a provider, submit an application, get approved, or receive funding, that provider may pay us. You never pay us anything.

When exactly we get paid

Across the providers currently listed on this site, we are compensated in these ways:

• a fixed amount when we send them a lead

Different providers pay different amounts, and some pay considerably more than others. That is the conflict of interest inherent in this business model, and pretending otherwise would not serve you.

How that affects what you see

Two separate things determine the results you get, and we keep them separate on purpose:

• Whether a provider appears at all is determined only by that provider's own published eligibility rules — the states they serve, the amounts they write, their income and credit guidelines — checked against what you told us. Compensation does not put you in front of a provider whose rules you do not meet, and it does not hide one whose rules you do.
• The order they appear in is influenced by compensation. Currently, ordering is weighted roughly 70% by how well a provider fits your situation and 30% by commercial factors including what we are paid.

This is why we label results as advertising rather than as recommendations. The order is not a statement that the top provider is best for you.

What we do not do

• We do not accept payment to change a provider's eligibility rules or to show you a provider you do not qualify for.
• We do not sell your information to unrelated parties for their own marketing.
• We do not send your information to any provider until you select that provider and authorize it.
• We do not describe compensation-influenced ordering as an objective ranking.

What you should do about it

Read past the first card. Compare the amount ranges, rates and terms each provider discloses on their own site. The provider listed third may be a better fit for you than the one listed first, and nothing about the ordering here should stop you from checking.
